An Ebonyi State Born Electrical Engineer, Mr. Celestine Onele will today commence a 150-hour marathon ironing of clothes to break the Guinness World Record.
Onele, a native of Ezza South local government area of the State is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.
Briefing journalists in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, said he has secured the approval of the Guinness World Record for the 150-hour marathon, ironing with rules that must be strictly adhered to for the record.
Onele said he is mentally and physically sound for the event which will be held in an event centre in Abakaliki and urged the general public to bring their clothes to the centre to enable him to have enough clothes that would enable him to break the record.
Onele noted that inadequate materials for the adventure would automatically disqualify him from the venture adding that among other clothes he will iron for the period including sheets, pillowcases, handkerchiefs, and trousers among others.
Onele opined that he likes ironing from childhood which motivated him to seek the record adding that he is aiming to break the 2015 record set by Garric Standard from the UK and Huston from Australia who had broken the record in the past.
“Before Garric Standard from the UK, the current record holder was Huston from Australia. So, she broke the record in 2012 with 80 hours before Garric did in 2015 for 100 hours.
“So, after Garric Standard did, Guinness approved some individuals who have attempted the record but they didn’t get the acknowledgement based on the fact that there were so many rules they tempered with.
He said that he would be making use of a generating set as an alternative to the power supply and called on people to come and cheer him up and support his moves.
