Court Sends Suspected Arms Trafficker To Prison

Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court has remanded an alleged firearms Trafficker, Buraimo Olaoluwa in prison for allegedly smuggling high caliber and sophisticated firearms and ammunition into Nigeria.

Justice Aluko ordered that Olaoluwa be kept behind bars until August 18, when his bail application will be heard and determined.

 

The defendant was arraigned before the court by the Nigerian Customs Services (NCS) on a one-count charge.

The prosecutor, Bolaji Falade told the court that the defendant, a resident of 2, Fisayo Street, Asherifa, lle-Ife Osun State committed the offence on March 18, 2022, at about 3.45a.m.

 

Some of the weapons illegally brought into the country by the defendant are: five Tavour of 21 556mm Israeli Rifles, one Sword, Seven pieces of OCK Pistol, Five M191 Pistol US Army, 28 Pieces of Colt Defence Hartford.
Others are: 50 pieces of Rifle Slings, 40 Pieces of Gunpowder, Thirty Pieces of Rifle Butts and Glasses, 16 packs of Silencer, 10 batteries (Small), 20 pieces of empty Shell ammunition and four pistol holders (Common Hasslers).
The arms include: Five articulated Telescope, Six empty magazines, four Tricol, 20 low Visibility Carbine, one carton of gunpowder, rifle accessories, One machine gun Stand (Tripod) one AK rifle design and telescope, One SM 16 23523 rifles and telescope, One Rimington assorted rifle and telescope.
Falade maintained that the offence violated section 47(1)(2) of the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA), Cap C45 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN), 2004, and is punishable under the same section of the same Act.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
