Governor Mallam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has been conferred with an award of merit by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in recognition of his commitment to promoting transparency, public accountability and good governance.
In a statement issued by chief press secretary to the governor, Comrade Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, he said the award was presented to Governor Namadi during the ICAN 2024 annual dinner and awards night held on Saturday evening in Lagos.
While presenting the award to the governor, the president and chairman of ICAN Governing Council, Dr Innocent Okwuosa said the association as a professional body only recognises and honours persons who have demonstrated commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, hardwork and good governance.
“We selected Governor Namadi and recognised him with this award of merits for his outstanding leadership and commitment to promoting financial discipline and transparency not only within Jigawa State but across the nation.
“Governor Namadi’s exceptional effort in the implementation of sound financial policies and his relentless efforts in fostering accountability in governance is well noticed by professional bodies and general public”
“This award is not a privilege to you Mr Excellency, but is well-deserved and a recognition of your sacrifice for the betterment of Jigawa people and humanity in general,” he said.
In his remarks shortly after receiving the award, Namadi extended his appreciation to the ICAN Governing Council for finding him worthy of the meritorious award.
“To me this award is a call for more sacrifice in public service, and I pledged to continue to promote professionalism, hardworking, financial discipline, accountability, transparency and good governance that are key in addressing the social and economic challenges militating our country ” Governor Namadi stated
Among the top government officials and public figures from Jigawa State who accompanied Governor Namadi to the event were the Hon. Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, and other governor’s aides, as well as businessman and APC chieftain in the state, Alhaji Isa Gerawa.
