Comptroller-general of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nang Nandap, has appealed for support from the traditional rulers to tackle the influx of aliens into the country through the land borders.

She said this category of the migrants sometimes could be high profile criminals who always terrorise the border communities in the country.

Nandap made the appeal yesterday when she led the senior officials of NIS to visit the emir of Gwandu, Major General Mohammed Iliyasu Bashar (rtd) at his palace in Birnin Kebbi.

The NIS boss told the emir that she was in his palace to seek the blessings of the traditional institution as well as support towards mitigating cross-border crimes by the movement of migrants through Kebbi borders into the country.

She said there was no way security could be guaranteed if unscrupulous elements were crossing illegally and terrorising innocent Nigerians.
