Zamfara State House of Assembly has condemned the purported plan to dialogue with bandits in the state.

In a statement by the assembly’s spokesman, Bello Madaro, the lawmakers described the plan as a ‘political move’ being championed by unpatriotic persons.

The statement noted that the perpetrators were only bent on causing confusion and compounding the security problem in the state.

“It is amazing to see some people going round the state in the name of peace to deal with bandits instead of appreciating and supporting the administration of Dauda Lawal in addressing the security challenge. They have rather chosen to go on the contrary for selfish and political reasons,” the statement read.

According to the statement, this followed a notice of public importance presented by the majority whip, and member representing Anka, Hon Rilwanu Marafa who explained that reports reaching them indicated that some unpatriotic people were going round the state particularly areas that are facing security challenges and embarking on negotiation with bandits.
He called on the house to immediately draw the attention of the state and federal governments as well as relevant security agencies to take serious action against such people for negotiating with bandits in the state.

In their contributions, members representing Tsafe East, Bungudu East, Kaura Namoda North, Birnin Magaji and Maradun II, Hon Bello Muh’d, Hon Yakuba Almajir Bela, Hon Nasir Muktar, Hon Nura Dahiru and Hon Maharazu Salisu condemned such attitude describing it as sabotage to the administration of Dauda Lawal’s effort at addressing insecurity problems affecting the state.

The lawmakers however passed a vote of confidence on the state governor, Dauda Lawal, for his efforts at tackling banditry in the state.

According to the legislators, such people were also claiming to have been sent by the federal government to make negotiation with bandits.
The speaker, Rt Hon Bilyaminu Ismail said the house has unanimously resolved to condemn the purported plans by some unpatriotic people who were trying to cause problems for the Zamfara State government in the area of addressing insecurity in the name of peace accord for their political interest.
