The court headed by the chief magistrate Muhammed Njidda Fufore, said defendants Elijah Zira and Edan Ayuba, were remanded for criminal conspiracy, mischief concerning electricity and telecommunication, and theft.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all the allegations levelled against them by the prosecution which contravened sections 60, 325, and 276 of the Penal Code law 2018.

The prosecuting police officer, ASP Francis Audu, told the court that the defendants perpetrated the crime on the 17th of April 2024, at Savannah Sugar Company.

He said that the chief security officer of the company, Yunade Lasisi, had reported to the police that while on routine patrol, he discovered that 68 electricity poles of their ongoing electricity project were vandalized, with cables worth over N22 million stolen.

ASP Francis further informed the court that the matter was still being investigated and asked that more time be given to the investigative police officer to complete the investigation.

The court granted the application after the defendants held no objection to it and adjourned the matter to May 22, 2024.
