Water and Garri marks another milestone in Tiwa Savage’s creative journey. Not only does she take on her debut lead role in a feature film, but she also assumes the role of executive producer, further solidifying her multifaceted personality.
As part of the release, the Queen of Afrobeats, Tiwa Savage has unveiled the soundtrack album for the film, offering a listening experience curated by the songstress herself.
The album comprises ten original tracks, featuring collaborations with artists spanning across Afropop, R&B, and Hip Hop. Grammy-nominated stars Olamide and Ayra Starr, Nigerian singer-songwriter ASA, Cameroonian multi-instrumentalist Richard Bona, and gospel artist Zacardi Cortez are among the features of the album.
Additionally, Black Sherif, Young Jonn, Mystro Sugar, and The Cavemen lend their voices to this musical journey.
Both the film and its accompanying soundtrack intertwine to explore the cultural shifts and inner reflections. In the film, Savage plays the character of Aisha, an ambitious fashion designer who returns to her native home ‘Eastside’ after a decade abroad in the United States.
As Aisha grapples with the realities characterized by escalating violence and heightened tensions, she confronts her past, reconnecting with family, friends, and former love interests while navigating personal scars and unresolved guilt.
Set in Cape Coast, Ghana, Water and Garri boasts captivating cinematography and storytelling under the direction of Meji Alabi. The cast includes Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde, adding depth and authenticity to the story.
