Woman, 2 Children Die In Osun Road Crash

Three people including a woman and her two children travelling on motorbike were yesterday crushed to death by a car in Odeomu, Ayeedade local government area of Osun State.

Our correspondent gathered that an infant strapped to the back of the woman survived the accident and was said to be receiving treatment at a hospital in the town.

LEADERSHIP Sunday further gathered that two of the occupants of the car with registration number BDG 481JD Lagos who are students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree were initially set ablaze by a mob but were rescued by police operatives while the driver of the car escaped.

One resident who spoke with our reporter said; “The car rammed into the bike conveying the mother and her three children around Obada Market.”

The eyewitness said the car was coming from Osogbo axis while the bike was conveying the victims to Oogi area.

Police spokesperson, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola, gave the number of the burnt vehicle as BDG 481JD Lagos, saying the driver escaped immediately after the incident.

“Despite several appeals to the mob, they set the remaining two occupants of the vehicle ablaze but the police later put out the fire and rescued them,” she said.

Senator Ademola Adeleke  described the incident as sad and unfortunate.

The governor who called for investigation and consequent action in a statement by his spokesman, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, said the incident was regrettable.
