The APC Grassroots Governance Group (APC G3) has singled out the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, and his Minister of State, Dr. Iziaq Salako, as standout performers in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet one year into his administration.

In a press release marking Tinubu’s first anniversary, the APC G3 national coordinator Amechi Chuks Oyema praised the two ministers for aligning with and giving life to the president’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” in the environment sector.

“Under Lawal, the Ogoni clean up exercise has intensified, with the people in the affected communities giving kudos to the government,” the group stated, highlighting a major achievement of the environment ministry.

APC G3 also commended Lawal’s strengthening of National Park Guards to combat banditry, poaching and illegal logging, as well as the launch of the National Clean Cooking Policy to promote sustainable cooking practices.

Other key accomplishments cited include the production of 45 million tree seedlings for afforestation efforts nationwide, collaboration with the agriculture ministry on climate-smart farming for food security, and the rollout of the 50×2030 Initiative to enhance agriculture data systems in 50 countries by 2030.

The group further lauded the “numerous international engagements” under Lawal’s leadership, including at the COP28 climate summit, where the minister secured agreements set to yield tangible environmental benefits for Nigeria soon.

“With these and several other achievements…APC G3 is saying Balarabe Abbas Lawal and his team have done very well and deserved to be commended,” the press release stated.

“We therefore name him and his minister of state as among the shining lights in this administration.”

The grassroots APC group praised the environment ministry for diligently implementing Tinubu’s agenda despite keeping a low-profile amid its impressive accomplishments over the past year.
