The Cross River State Police Command has denied accusation of fraud levelled against the Commander of Operation Akpakwu, SP Sunday Elemi.

The Commander was accused of pocketing allowances meant for other officers, among other infractions.

Responding to the allegations, the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Grimah in denying the allegation on Monday in Calabar, described the trending report as “nothing but false.”

Speaking through a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, CP Grimah said its absurd for anyone to accuse the Command of fraud.

“The Cross River State Police Command regards this report as not only damaging and misleading, but also a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Command in Cross River State,” CP Grimah said.

The CP further disclosed that an investigation panel has been inaugurated to unravel the allegations.

“The panel headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Intelligence, ACP Eugene Ubine, has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation to establish the veracity of the allegations and to restore the integrity of the Force.

“CP Gyogon Grimah reaffirms the Command’s commitment to zero tolerance for extortion and all forms of corrupt practices, as strongly condemned by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

“This stance is firmly upheld within the Cross River State Police Command under his leadership.

“The Command is determined to ensure there is no place for any erring and unethical police personnel.

“The CP assures the public that the findings of the investigation will be made public upon conclusion,” the statement assured.
