The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities has welcomed the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance’s choice of Abia State for the second phase of the European Union-funded Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme.

This was contained in a statement issued by the centre’s acting director, Godwin Unumeri, which was made available to LEADERSHIP Friday in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, yesterday.

The statement said the centre is a Nigerian non-governmental organisation that advocates for the rights and inclusion of People With Disabilities (PWDs).

It also said the centre and ROLAC had collaborated on various projects to promote the rights of PWDs in the country including advocacy for inclusive legislation and policies.

It noted that “Others” are “capacity building, access to justice and security services for PWDs, and promoting accessible infrastructure and transportation.”

It added that the partnership aims to ensure that PWDs are included in the country’s justice and security sectors and that their rights are respected and protected.

“We welcome the news of the presence of the RoLAC ii Program in Abia State. Abia is the second state in the country where the centre has an office.

“The centre is committed to supporting RoLAC ii Program in achieving its mandate in the state just as we did in Lagos and Edo as well as Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory,” he said.
