Members of the Abuja branch of the Orokam Development Association of Ogbadibo local government area of Benue State have elected a new executive body to manage the association for the next four years.
At the election held in Nyanya, Abuja last weekend, Mr Augustine Onje from Akor Orokam was elected president, taking over from Isaac Ameh Alachi from Ai-Inamu who became president of the association on May 5, 2019.

Others elected include Augustine Odo from Agboriko as secretary, Rebecca Odu from Ai’Inamu as chairlady, Sunday Agada from Oko as assistant secretary, Simon Ochogwu from Akor as financial secretary, Audu Odaikwu from Ai’Ona as treasurer, Ayegba John from Ai’Inamu as provost, and Godwin Aba from Ai’Ona as legal adviser. The Agboriko clan is expected to submit nominations for auditor soon.

The former president, Issac Alachi, in his valedictory speech, expressed gratitude to the members for the support, dedication and commitment extended to him throughout his tenure, saying the passion for their collective cause had been the driving force behind the achievements and success thus far, adding that he was deeply honoured to have had the opportunity to lead the association.

“We have overcome challenges, celebrated triumphs and worked tirelessly to advance our shared goals. Your support has been the cornerstone of our success, and I am truly thankful to each and every one of you who has contributed to our journey,” he said.

He said his administration erected a multipurpose hall for the association on the 100 x 100 FT land purchased by the previous administration, though it is yet to be completed, just as he created a smooth and peaceful atmosphere of love and unity among members.

“We see ourselves as one big family and are friendly to one other. This alone can bring development to our dear fatherland, Orokam. As we transit to a new chapter with a new president, I urge you to keep the spirit of unity, cooperation and mutual respect that have defined our association. Embrace the incoming leadership with the same level of support and enthusiasm that you have shown me, and together, we will ensure a seamless transition and continued progress,” he added.

Responding, the new president, Augustine Onje, called for more unity, dedication and sense of purpose among members to move Orokam forward, saying the area needs more efforts for development, and every member should strategise for it in earnest.
