The Kwara State Coordination Office of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has enlightened the state’s livestock farmers on measures to improve their productivity.

The state government agency sensitised the farmers during an engagement meeting with stakeholders in the livestock farming business in the Offa and Oyun local government areas of the state.

The state project coordinator, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye, said the project aims to improve productivity in the livestock business, enhance the commercialisation of selected value chains, ensure access to finance, and strengthen the capacity of farmers and value chain operators in the livestock sector.

The coordinator, Mrs. Folake Iseyemi, who represented the participants, urged them to ensure that at least 30 percent of women were included in the formation of their cluster/cooperative groups, with a view to following the World Bank’s guidelines.

The project extension officer, Mr Nureni AbdulRasaq, explained that the meeting, among other things, was to sensitize the livestock farmers on the proposed farmers’ field school in the area.

He said this would help improve farmers’ knowledge, skills, and productivity, leading to increased income and better decision-making.

In his remarks, the Olora of Ijagbo, Alhaji Mudashir Ajiboye, appreciated the World Bank, the federal government, and the Kwara State government for their efforts at elevating the standard of living of people engaged in livestock businesses.

He assured the team of their maximum support and cooperation in implementing the project.
