The commodities include 19,360 50kg bags of maize, 26,400 50kg bags of sorghum, and 8,360 50 kg bags of millet.

While presenting the commodities on behalf of the federal government in Kano, the director-general of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, said the gesture waspart of President Bola Tinubu’s promise to cushion the impact of the current economic downturn in the country.

She said, “We are here to hand over the food items to the state government for distribution to the identified deserving beneficiaries in the communities through the constituted committees in each local government.

“Twenty per cent of the food items due for each LGA should be given to religious organisations and three percent to be given to boarding schools in each LGAs,” she said.

The DG, who was represented by NEMA acting zonal director, Northwest, Dr Ishaya Isah-Chonoko, tasked the state government with taking proactive steps to avert floods in the state based on the Seasonal Climate Prediction and Annual Flood Outlook, which indicates that some parts of the state are likely to be affected.
