Taraba State governor Agbu Kefas has kicked against the creation of state police because the existing security outfit can handle the national security challenges.

The governor stated this yesterday when he hosted the “Operation Whirl Stroke” commander of the Nigerian Army at the Government House, Jalingo, the state capital.

He said that after serving in the Nigerian military for several years, he knew what Nigeria’s military and other security operatives could do to national security.

“That is why when people talk about the creation of state police, I keep quiet. I know the capability of the Nigerian Army and other security operatives of the country; I know that you are significant assets to Nigeria, but you need the necessary support and an enabling environment to discharge your duties,” Kefas stated.

He revealed that his government was collaborating with neighbouring states and the Republic of Cameroon to form a common front where security issues bothering the states would be discussed.

“We have been making ways to collaborate with governors of our neighbouring states and the governor in Cameroon where we can synergise to tackle issues of insecurity at our borders; the criminals must be fished out for the law-abiding citizens to live in peace,” he said.
