An advocacy group, ‘Women of Glory’, has urged Africans to reshape the story of the African child through comprehensive education.

The call was made at an outreach event held to mark the 2024 African Child Day at LEA Primary School in Galadimawa area of Abuja.

During the event, Lady Lucy Nwajideobi, the president of Women of Glory, emphasised the need to change the narrative of the African child. She stressed that every child is entitled to comprehensive education regardless of their background or social standing.

Lady Lucy expressed hope for the African child and highlighted the positive impact of her organisation in addressing the education needs of children.

She stated, “The African child deserves more than what is currently given to them. It is imperative for the government and welfare organizations like ours to change the narrative. There is a crucial need to include children in education, irrespective of their socioeconomic status, gender, or location.

“Our Foundation has led numerous initiatives aimed at improving the lives of African children. From scholarship programs to health and nutrition projects, we have worked tirelessly to provide a supportive environment where children can thrive. Together with our partners, donors, and community members, we are committed to a brighter and more equitable future for every African child.”

The Helping Hands Department representative of Women of Glory, Mrs Buji Richmond, disclosed that the Nigerian government should invest in inclusive education to curb the high rate of out-of-school children.

In her words: “The government can do better by investing in education for every child in Nigeria to curb the high rate of out-of-school children. Aside from giving palliative to children and widows, we also are invested in giving out scholarships to help mitigate the brazen poverty that has kept children out of school.”

Consequently, Joshua Yashim, speaking on behalf of the children who benefited from the outreach, thanked the event organisers and urged other corporate organisations to get involved.

“I am grateful to Women of Glory for this life-changing outreach. It has sowed a seed in my heart, and I hope to replicate such a gesture when I grow up. I urge other institutions, both private and government, to be involved in initiatives like this that affect social life,” he stated.
