National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has secured the federal government’s approval to create a media department. This is to help scale up the publication of the critical roles of the scheme in the socio-economic development of Nigeria

The feat aims to facilitate the effective administration and utilisation of NYSC radio and Television stations in pursuit of the Scheme’s mandate.

The director-general of NYSC, Brigadier General Yusua Ahmed, stated this in his address at the 2024 public relations and protocol officers Workshop, which had the theme “Retooling NYSC Public Relations Officers For Modern Corporate Image Management.”

The Director General said management would ensure the new department thrives through local content from stakeholders and Corps Members.

He commended the NYSC Public Relations Officers for their diligence in discharge of their official responsibilities, including ensuring efficient management of NYSC public functions and adequate publicity of NYSC programmes, which has enhanced the scheme’s good image.

“While Management would continue to expand the coast of Public Relations Officers, it expects you to fulfil the statutory requirement for the practice of Public Relations by enrolling into the relevant professional bodies as members”, the DG said.

Also, the director of information and public relations, Mr. Eddy Megwa, said the annual NYSC Public Relations Officers’ Workshop is a veritable platform for officers to acquire requisite knowledge on contemporary issues influencing the practice of the profession.

He added that it is a training programme meant to keep officers on top of their game and adequately equip them to manage the scheme’s corporate image effectively.
