Bukuru, the headquarters of Jos South local government area of Plateau State was thrown into confusion yesterday afternoon as rampaging hoodlums burnt several cars and buildings.

The youths allegedly had a minor skirmish with security operatives at the demolished Kugiya Market.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the crisis broke out at 2pm when security operatives deployed by the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) came to enforce the Executive Order recently signed by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

It was further learnt that the irate youths, armed with cutlasses, clubs and other dangerous weapons resisted the security personnel carrying out the order and resorted to violence, burning cars and shops of innocent residents.

An eyewitness, Mr Garba Tanko, told our correspondent that over 10 cars near a supermarket in the community were razed by the hoodlums.

He said the JMDB officials with security agents, mostly the police and men of the NSCDC, had gone to effect the Executive Order when the hoodlums confronted them.

Governor Mutfwang signed an Executive Order to control the illegal erection of buildings and shops to ensure traffic control in the area.

Executive Order No. 003, 2024, became imperative considering the indiscriminate manner in which buildings were being erected and traffic control had degenerated within the Greater Jos Master plan, as well as the prevalence of building collapse in the state.

The spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, could not be reached before this report was filed.
