Former Nasarawa State House of Assembly speaker, Mr Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, has admonished politicians eyeing various positions in 2027 to wait for the right time.

He said those elected to represent the people during the 2023 general elections have over three years to complete their tenure.

According to him, those secretly lobbying for positions ahead of 2027 merely distract those in power and stultify development.

He spoke when the former chief executive officer (CEO) of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib, paid him a Sallah homage in his residence in Umaisha, Toto local government area of the state.

Dr Shuaib is speculated to have been eyeing the governorship seat ahead of 2027.

He urged politicians to support those in authority instead to enable them to develop the state.

“First, let me thank God Almighty for the gift of life and for us to witness yet another Sallah festival. I also thank you sincerely for finding time to identify with me. May God bless you.

“ Secondly, to me, the time is not yet ripe for 2027; we still have three years to go by, and one year has just gone.

May God give us a long life and sound health to witness 2027.

“For me, like every other civilian with democratic rights, I stand with the government for the benefit of my people, and when the time comes, I believe the government will give us directions, stakeholders will advise accordingly, and that is where we will belong, and that will be the way to go for me and my people.

“I have told my people at the palace that this is not time for politics. I am not supporting any political aspirants for now. We are assessing our representatives to see their developmental efforts in our area and what they bring to the table for our people.

“Leadership comes from God, and he has designed the beginning to the end of everyone’s destiny, and no one has the right or power to stop anyone’s destiny.

“ And my brotherly advice is to operate with caution and be prayerful so that God will guide you and beware of bad eggs among you because some people are not what they claimed to be; that is the fact,” Balarabe said.

Earlier, Shuaib said he had come to identify with the former speaker during the Sallah period as a political leader in the area and appreciate his excellent work with his people.

“ I have come with my entourage to pay you Sallah homage as our political leader. Before coming here, I visited His Royal Highness the Ohimegye at the palace to identify with him on this Sallah.

“ Ohimegye has said many good things about you, including your peace, unity, and developmental efforts in our land. We appreciate you for that and urge you to sustain the spirit. God Almighty will continue to bless you.

“ Let’s continue to work for peace, unity and prosperity of our land,” Shuaib added.
