Cross River State chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has elected Sir Godwin Okwu as its new state president.

It refused to recognise Abraham Osok as the state president of the group.

The association’s stakeholders made a u-turn and affirmed Okwu, alleging that the embattled state president, Mr. Abraham Osok, came to power five months ago via a kangaroo electoral process marred by irregularities.

But in a swift reaction, Osok told LEADERSHIP that Okwu’s affirmation was laughable, saying, “I remain the authentic president of NAPPS in Cross River State.”

Speaking with LEADERSHIP on Monday evening in Calabar after the affirmation by NAPPS stakeholders, the pioneer state president of NAAPS, Dr. Ramsey Ebam-Ndep, said, “We just did the affirmation of Sir Godwin Okwu as our new state president.

“To the extent that the election that was purported to have been conducted some months ago by some persons was illegal.

“They constituted a particular team that was illegal to conduct that election. We want to let people know that we have just affirmed our new state president in the person of Godwin Okwu.

“The certificate issued to his opponent some months ago by a particular group was fake and illegal, and so we decided to do the right thing,” he said.

Okwu lauded the stakeholders in his post-affirmation speech for finding him worthy to lead. He pledged to implement reforms to elevate the association to an enviable pedestal.

Also, NAPPS Board of Trustee (BoT) chairman, Ubong Edet-Igwang averred that Okwu’s affirmation as new state president remains one of the best decisions ever made by the school proprietors association, given the potential they see in Okwu regarding the association’s transformation.
