Interim management committee chairman of Gwarzo local government council of Kano State, Dr Mani Tsohon-Gwarzo, has empowered 500 youths and women with a package worth N20,000 each to boost their businesses.
At the distribution of the empowerment package, Dr Tsohon-Gwarzo said the gesture was geared towards poverty eradication and promoting jobs and wealth creation. He noted that people are empowered through their businesses.
This was contained in a statement issued by Rabiu Khalil, Gwarzo LG’s zonal information officer, yesterday.
He quoted the chairman as having restated the council’s commitment to supporting women and youth, which will contribute to growth and development in the locality.
According to him, the council is complementing the effort of the state governor, Engr Abba Kabir, on youth empowerment and poverty eradication.
“We are optimistic that this token amount of money is enough capital for bean cake and groundnut oil sellers, other food vendors, and petty traders, and if properly managed, it will create more wealth,” the chairman said.
In his brief remarks, the deputy governor, who is also the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Comrade Aminu Gwarzo, who Alhaji Rabiu Liliko represented, charged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the package and encouraged the council to do more of such empowerment.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Hajiya Kuluwa Garba from Jamaa ward and Sule Danliti from Kara ward expressed their appreciation to the council and promised to utilise the empowerment package.
