Leave Rivers Alone, Face Your Imo, Coalition Tells Ugochinyere

A group under the auspices of the Coalition for Good Governance in Rivers has warned the member representing Ideato North and Ideato South constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives, Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere, to desist from making unguarded comments on the affairs of Rivers State.

The group said it had been closely monitoring the actions and statements of Ugochinyere regarding the ongoing rift between the Rivers State governor, Sim Fubara, the Rivers State House of Assembly, and the democratically elected local government chairmen and it was hard time such “madness” must stop.

In a statement jointly signed by its president, Joe Samson and secretary, Aaron Igbijoh, the coalition urged Ugochinyere to keep his focus on his Imo State, where people are still compelled to stay at home on Mondays, children cannot go to school, and businesses cannot open.

They insisted that the lawmaker is not a Rivers man and he is irrelevant in the affairs of the state, recalling that Ugochinyere once raised alarms that a man was responsible for killing his uncle and burning his cars hence, he is already facing enough troubles in his home and personal life but did not demonstrate any ability to solve them.

The coalition warned Ugochinyere to desist from his childish and mercenary comments on matters concerning Rivers State as it will not hesitate henceforth to take any measures they deem necessary against him if he takes this long overdue warning lightly, saying Niger Delta is not Imo.

“First, it is essential to state that he does not represent Rivers State or any part of it, but rather the people of Ideator North/South in Imo State. Rivers State has competent, experienced and well-read representatives in the National Assembly who can effectively speak for the state if needed.

“Second, his claim that 60 members in his group are referred to as the “G60” is a scam and misleading, which is unsurprising because his antics are well known.

We have confirmed that no more than seven members are in his group, but he lies and deceives the public. This leads us to ask where Nigeria is going with characters like him in public office.

“Furthermore, his call for the government of Rivers State to invoke sections of the criminal code and institute treason charges against the 23 local government chairmen and their alleged sponsors and co-conspirators betrays his ignorance and conveniently disregards the fact that the State Assembly has extended their tenure for another six months and that the matter is currently before the Court of Appeal.

This interference in another state’s affairs makes him an interloper meddling in matters outside his competence and constituency.”
