Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has presented a furnished bungalow and cash to a widow, Mrs Ikwo Emmanuel, of Eyekip village in Urueoffong-Oruko local government area under the Compassionate Home Initiative (CHI) component of the ‘ARISE Agenda’ of his government.
Mrs Emmanuel, who has endured substantial hardships since the loss of her husband, expressed deep gratitude as she received the keys to her new home, remarking amid tears that “this new home is a blessing beyond words. It has given me hope and a fresh start.”
The commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, Gen Koko Essien (rtd), who represented the governor, reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to social welfare and community development.
“The Arise Compassionate Home project is designed to provide safe and comfortable housing for those in need. We are committed to ensuring that every citizen of Akwa Ibom State has a decent place to call home.
“The Arise Compassionate Home project, aimed at constructing and donating homes to widows, orphans, and other vulnerable groups, has already positively impacted numerous lives across the state. This administration emphasizes the importance of such initiatives in building a compassionate and inclusive society,” he said.
Welcoming the governor, the commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Chief Uno Etim, who doubles as the political leader of the LGA, commended Pastor Eno for the initiative, noting that such interventions would go a long way in alleviating the poverty-stricken rural poor in the state.
Expressing joy at government projects in the LGA, Chief Uno, noted that the Governor Eno-led administration is the first to touch the lives of the people of the area in such a manner.
The transition committee chairman of the council, Dr Tokuboh Okpoyo, also commended the governor for the gesture and for exceeding expectations within his first year in office and appealed for state government support in constructing the road leading to the abandoned Beach Market in Eyobiasang village.
“The market has the potential of significantly boosting the internally generated revenue (IGR) of Akwa Ibom State upon completion,” she stressed.
