Chief Priest Rearraigned In Court Over False Information

An Anambra chief priest, Peter Chijioke Okaa has again been arraigned before His Lordship Ken Nwoye of Nnobi Chief Magistrate Court, Anambra State for giving the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) false information against a US Army Veteran, Mr Bonaventure Ezekwenna.

Chief Okaa who hails from Awuda village, Nnobi community in Idemili-South local government area of Anambra State, the same area Mr Ezekwenna comes from, is already standing trial in the Nnobi Chief Magistrate Court for giving false information to the Force Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) against the US Army veteran.

Incidentally, Chief Peter Chijioke Okaa was arraigned again yesterday before Chief Magistrate Nwoye over another charge which included that he gave false information to the NPF, this time at the Zone 13 Ukpo Command against the retired American Army personnel.

In the three-count charge marked Mis/39c/2024 between the Commissioner of Police Vs Chief Peter Chijioke Okaa, the latter was accused of making a publication which defamed Mr Bonaventure Ezekwenna’s reputation and thereby brought him under public ridicule; that he also issued threats to him and thereby caused him anxiety and that he also gave false information to the police against Mr Ezekwenna.

According to the charge, Chief Okaa was said to have given the false information against Mr Ezekwenna to the Zone 13 Ukpo, Command of the Nigeria Police Force sometime last year.
Meanwhile, Mr Okaa who was represented in court by his legal counsel, Mrs C.N. Ndife denied all the three count charges preferred against him.

The Commissioner of Police was represented by one Inspector Joseph Ossai who held brief for the prosecution counsel from Zone 13 Ukpo police Command, C.P. Nwezi.

His Lordship Ken Nwoye granted Chief Okaa bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety who should be a resident within the jurisdiction of the Chief Magistrate Court and who have a verifiable address.

The Chief Magistrate adjourned commencement of hearing on the case to July 11, 2024.
