Adamawa State Peace Corps Command has denied owing Mallam Zayyad El-Muhammad any unpaid allowances, saying he is no longer a staff member.

Reacting to a newspaper publication where Muhammad claimed he and other command staff had not been paid their allowances for four years, Hyelawalbiya Aliyuda, AC Intelligence of the command, said: “ Zayyad El-Muhammad is no longer a Peace Corps staff member. He was suspended on May 19, 2020, and relieved of his job along with five others on September 27, 2022.

“He and others were penalised after they were found wanting in accordance with Article 17 (2) (d) of the constitution of Peace Corps of Nigeria, which bars them from holding any office in the organisation.

“The suicide attempt was staged to attract attention from the unsuspecting public.”

He noted that since May 2020, when the current Commandant, Habila John, assumed office, Adamawa State Peace Corps Command personnel have been paid their allowances as and when due, adding that the records are there for everyone to confirm.

He said the Adamawa State command has achieved a lot in the past four years, and the feat is causing fifth columnists sleepless nights.

“They are using different tactics to tarnish our good work. We won’t be deterred by any cheap blackmail from anyone. For the records, we were recognised by the headquarters as the best command in 2021 and awarded for outstanding dedication and performance during 2021 Annual Fund Raising Fair,” he added.

LEADERSHIP recalls that El-Muhammad attempted to commit suicide on Saturday, June 22, 2024, in Yola before he was apprehended by the Adamawa State Police command.
