Ahead of the August 31, 2024, local government council election in Kebbi State, the office of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Kebbi State has requested the State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) to provide the office with the guidelines governing the conduct of the scheduled local government councils election on or before July 7.

It said that the guidelines will ease the burden of holding the election successfully without any hitches.

IPAC chairman of the state, comrade Ibrahim Muhammed, made the request yesterday during a press briefing held at IPAC headquarters in the Gesse Phase 1 area of Birnin Kebbi metropolis. He said, ” We have agreed with the timetable given to us concerning the election schedule, but I need guidelines to aid us in determining the criteria attached to the election.”

As indicated in the timetable, we needed these guidelines on or before July 7; election processes commence from July 7 to September 9,” Muhammed added.

Other requests tendered by the IPAC to KESIEC include cancellation of charges fees or reduction of the costs as the case may be by the candidates willing to contest for the chairman or councillor positions, appointing qualified and non-partisan electoral officers and announcing results immediately after the elections to the public.

Muhammed warned that any shortcoming of these demands would lead to the opposition parties’ total rejection of the election under IPAC.
