The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has released a list of 98 lawyers shortlisted for the conferment of the prestigious Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank for 2024.

The announcement, made on Monday, includes 87 advocate applicants and 11 academic applicants.

The Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Hajo Bello, emphasised that publication of the list does not automatically confer the SAN title on the shortlisted individuals.

In a statement, Bello said, “The general public is hereby invited to comment on the integrity, reputation, and competence of the above-listed applicants.”

Bello also highlighted the importance of public input in the selection process, “Every complaint(s) must be accompanied with a verifying affidavit deposed to by the author before a superior court of record in Nigeria or before a notary public and be in twenty (20) copies.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the publication of the names of the shortlisted applicants is not an indication of their success in the process,” Bello added, underscoring that the final conferment of the SAN rank will be based on further evaluations and recommendations.
