A member representing Lavun, Edati and Mokwa federal constituencies of Niger State Dr Joshua Audu Gana has empowered 120 women and youths with skills acquisition materials and spent N10 million for health interventions.
While distributing the materials, which included sewing machines, grinding engines, and other starter packs, Gana said he was committed to providing quality representation.
He said the decision to empower them is to cushion the effects of poverty and the current economic situation for the people of Lavun, Edati and Mokwa local government areas.
Dr Gana, who distributed the items to the beneficiaries at Kutigi, the headquarters of Lavun local government area, over the weekend, said the gesture was in commemoration of his first anniversary and that he was moved by the prevalence of hardships among the people.
“I feel the pains of my people and have decided to touch their lives through people-oriented programs to transform their living standard and develop the entire Nupe land through the collaborative efforts of leaders in the party,” he said.
He said, “Your prayers and support during the court litigations make us victorious. I must be there for you too; anything I do is in consultation with my good party elders here as they were involved in raising me up to succeed in politics at both federal, state, and local government levels through their counselling.”
Gana, the son of Prof Jerry Gana, the former Information Minister, said boreholes were drilled across various wards, submersible pumps were provided, rehabilitation and purchase of transformers were sustained, and agricultural inputs were distributed.
He said N10 million was provided as part of health care interventions, through surgeries, drugs, payment of hospital bills and enrolment in health care programmes.
The state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr Tanko Beji, said the party will continue to encourage all its elected members to fulfil their campaign promises to the people and commended Joshua’s courage in redeeming the PDP’s image by fulfilling his promises to the people.
