The Federal Ministry of Works has hinted that it will revoke the contract for the construction of Koko-Mahuta-Dabai Road in Kebbi State.

The federal government awarded it to Messr Great Northern International Nigeria Limited (GNIC) in 2020.

The Kebbi State House of Assembly spokesperson, Hon. Murtala Diri, made this known in a statement he issued to journalists yesterday in Birnin Kebbi.

He said the minister of works, David Umahi, made the disclosure when he received a letter of request from the Kebbi State government, signed by Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, conveyed by the Speaker Kebbi State House of Assembly, Mohammed Usman Zuru and former minister of communication, Major General Muhammadu Mogoro (rtd).

The governor asked the federal government through the Federal Ministry of Works to revoke the 87km Koko-Mahuta-Dabai Road awarded to the company in 2020.

He said the request became necessary because the company failed to meet the terms of the contractual agreement, which significantly delayed the completion of the road, causing inconvenience to the residents and commuters in the area.

The governor added that the 87km road links six major agricultural hubs of Kebbi State: Koko/Besse, Shanga, Fakai, Zuru, Danko/Wasagu, and Sakaba. He said these are areas where they got tremendous electoral support and are of significant importance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda on food security.
