An eye witness informed LEADERSHIP that the driver of the Lexus car was at high speed as he was descending from the Adegbemile Cultural Center axis of Oba-Adesida road and later hit the motorcycle from behind killing the rider and the passenger instantly.

According to the source, the driver suspected to be an internet fraudster otherwise known as, ‘Yahoo Boy’ also rammed his car into a jeep packed on the roadside, injuring a woman waiting for her husband who crossed to the supermarket.

The source further explained that, “The guy who drove the car is underage and looks like those Yahoo guys. He was coming from Oja Oba’s side and was at very high speed before hitting the Okada man and another lady from behind, killing them instantly.

“He also hit a lady, broke her legs, and a woman who was waiting for her husband crossed to the other side to buy something at the supermarket. God saved her two kids who stood on the pedestrian lane, he would have killed them all.

When LEADERSHIP visited the scene of the incident, the injured woman was still lying down at the passenger door of the vehicle while those gathered were trying to rescue others who were later rushed to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a suspected thief was arrested at the scene while trying to steal the mobile phones of the victims.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami- Omisanya, said one person lost his life in the accident after those injured were referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.

The PPRO said, ” The accident happened in Akure along the Oba- Adesida and Alagbaka axis of the state capital. The victims were rescued and were taken to a hospital in Akure. After they were referred to FMC Owo one person later lost his life.”
