The general officer commanding (GOCC), of 81 division of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Usman has handed over to the new GOC, Maj.-Gen. F.U Mijinyawa.

The handover to the new GOC, who was posted from the Army Headquarters Department of Policy and Plans, Abuja, took place during a brief ceremony at the Headquarters, 81 Division, Lagos.

Usman, in a brief parting address, during a parade in his honour earlier, had urged the Army to remain professional and committed to serving the nation and government with sincerity and loyalty, and to support his successor, Maj.-Gen. Mijinyawa, to have a fruitful and successful tenure.

Usman, who has been redeployed to the Department of Transformation and Innovation, Army Headquarters, Abuja, was Commander of the Presidential Guard Brigade of Nigeria from 2019 to 2023, before his redeployment to 81 Division, Lagos as GOC.

Usman had served as the company commander of Guards Brigade and Adjutant Commanding Officer of 177 Battalion, he held the Chief of Staff at the Brigade for three commanders as a colonel for four years.

He was the Chief of Civil Military Affairs at the Army Headquarters in Abuja before becoming the 36th Commander for the Guards Brigade.
