In a rare display of interfaith harmony and unity, ECWA Youth Fellowship has cleared the drainages of the Yelwan-Makaranta Jumma’ah Mosque in Bauchi

LEADERSHIP gathered that the effort left the community members beaming with pride and satisfaction for entrenching inter-religious harmony among residents.

The dedicated Christian youths rolled up their sleeves to clear the drainages of the local Jumu’at mosque, leaving the Muslim community deeply touched by their kindness.

The effort is an inspiring story of how these young individuals bridged the religious divide, showcasing the true spirit of unity and service.

From the smiles on the faces of the mosque’s worshippers to the sense of community that now fills the air, this remarkable act of kindness has left an indelible mark on the residents of Yelwan Makaranta.

The assistant leader of the ECWA English Youth Fellowship, Sulaiman Hena, said that the exercise is a community service that forms part of the celebration of ECWA International Week.

He explained that churches undertake various kinds of community services, with ECWA English of Yelwan Makaranta deciding to clean the drainages of its host communities.

He said the decision was made considering the rainy season, which brings the threat of flooding due to blocked drainages in the area.

Hena asserted that cleaning the mosque drainages will strengthen unity and brotherhood among adherents of different religions.

Similarly, Comrade Rice Zull, National Director of Social Welfare of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), maintained that the motivational factor driving Christian youths is embedded in the holy book, which encourages believers to do what is right.

To him, knowing the right thing to do and failing to do it is a sin.

Therefore, he called on Christian youths in Bauchi State to always unite towards a common goal and for a greater purpose, as exemplified by the Youth Fellowship of ECWA 3 Rafin Zurfi.

One of the youth fellowship members, Theressa Karani, who participated in the exercise, expressed delight that she could contribute her quota to this exercise, which shows love and concern for the community.

Karani appealed to other women to join their male counterparts in all developmental programmes to benefit their communities and humanity.

A resident who is a Muslim, Rabilu Muhammad, said he was overwhelmed with surprise when he saw Christian youths clearing the mosque’s drainage and washing away all the dirt that had been removed.

He commended the Christian youths for this show of love, which he believes will strengthen their bond of brotherhood.

He also called on them to sustain this noble act.
