The social media giant Facebook deleted a Facebook page belonging to renowned Hausa musician Dauda Kahutu Rarara after users reported him for posting unsuitable content.
Rarara, a vocal supporter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), posted a new song on his page hailing President Bola Tinubu’s led federal government despite widespread criticisms of the country’s economic hardship and insecurity.
The song’s lyrics, which claimed there was no hunger or insecurity in the nation, sparked outrage among Facebook users who accused the musician of being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians.
BBC Hausa reports that his page was subsequently reported to Meta, leading to its deletion on Sunday.
Ironically, Rarara’s mother was recently kidnapped by bandits and rescued after several days, yet he continues to praise the Tinubu administration, claiming there are no security issues under its watch.
The controversy surrounding Rarara’s page comes as Nigerian youth prepare for a nationwide protest against bad governance, scheduled to begin on August 1.
