Cholera: Rotary Club Of Wuse Sensitises Pregnant Women In FCT Community

The Rotary Club of Abuja, Wuse 2 (The Mayors) has taken a sensitization campaign to pregnant women at Gbagalape-Nyanya, a community in the Federal Capital Territory, with the donation of safe-delivery kits to 25 women.

The initiative with the theme “Maternal and Child Care,” took place at the Primary Health Centre in the area and was aimed at educating the women about cholera prevention, and to also touch lives of those in need.

The project which held Tuesday, July 23, 2024 marked the club’s first project for the Rotary year 2024-25, under the leadership of newly elected Club Officers and the Board of Directors.

Club President Rotarian Obiageri Clementina Henshaw mobilized club members to support pregnant women, mothers, and families in need through the maiden project.

President Henshaw while encouraging the women to adhere to simple preventive routines, distributed 25 kits containing safe-delivery items such as sanitary pads, baby clothes, and other necessities.

Also, The Club’s Vice President, Rotarian (Dr.) Linda C. Obiako, educated the women on the prevention and treatment of cholera.

She said The Rotary Club of Abuja, Wuse 2 is dedicated to reaching out to rural communities and making a positive and lasting impact on their lives. “The club will continue to identify emerging needs and provide support, showcasing the benevolence of Rotary International.”

The Club commended Assistant Governor Rtn. Kenneth Iwuchukwu, affirming that the project aligns with Rotary’s focus on maternal and child health.

The District Chair of Maternal and Child Health for District 9127, Rotarian Lovina Okorn, emphasized Rotary’s commitment to reducing infant and maternal mortality rates by 25% over the next three years.
She highlighted the need for continuous advocacy, education, and support, noting that some pregnant women still neglect essential antenatal care and health services.

The Rotary Club of Abuja, Wuse 2 remains steadfast in its dedication to supporting primary health care centers and vulnerable communities.
