JUST-IN: Ex-Ekiti Varsity DVC Dies In Kidnappers’ Den

The Ekiti State Police Command have confirmed the death of kidnapped former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, Professor Femi Olaofe.

The ex-university teacher, was on July 9, abducted by some gunmen alongside his gateman in his residence located at the Housing Estate, Afao Road in the state’s capital, Ado-Ekiti.

The sum of N50 million was demanded by the late don’s abductors for his release.

The retired Professor of Industrial Chemistry was said to have been kidnapped after returning from a short visit to Lagos, where he had gone to see his children.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the corpse of the septuagenarian who has been held in captivity by his abductors for 20 days was found in a shallow grave along Ekiti Cargo Airport Road.

Some suspects were said to have been arrested by the police in connection with the deceased’s kidnap.

The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Adeniran Akinwale Adeniran who confirmed Professor Olaofe’s death said, “Yes, the professor has been found dead and we are doing everything possible to exhume the body for burial.

“However, we have arrested so many people and you know the circumstances surrounding the incident, and we suspected insider’s work in which the security man employed by the professor was the one who planned it.

“They (abductors) kidnapped the man with him so that we will not suspect. In the process of rescuing him, we have arrested some people. I can’t say much about the security guard, but at the appropriate time, we will brief the public.”
