Police operatives have detained a young man wielding a knife amid escalating protests against Nigeria’s severe cost of living crisis in Abuja on Thursday.

The arrest took place near the MKO Abiola National Stadium as #EndBadGovernance demonstrations gained momentum across the country.

The protests, also dubbed ’10 Days of Rage’, beginning from August 1, have seen significant participation by citizens. The arrested individual, dressed in a wine and white T-shirt, appeared visibly shaken as police officers interrogated him about the weapon.

Tensions ran high as an angry crowd surrounded the scene, shouting and expressing their frustration. In response to the growing unrest, police have deployed teargas to disperse the protesters in various parts of Abuja.
