A political group, Youth for Good Governance and Sustainable Development (YGG-5D), has said residents of the Federal Capital Territory FCT (FCT) have no reason to participate in the August 1 to 10 nationwide protests as they will be the ones to lose.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, the coordinator of the group, Muhammed Kabir Abubakar, said a careful study shows that the protests are being planned by faceless people “who want to use the youth as a tool to cause trouble, which may probably lead to breach of law and order.”

He said: “We invited you here today under our Youth organisation based in FCT. Members of this organisation are mostly FCT natives and residents who live and do their business here.

“We as people residing in FCT have no reason to participate in this nationwide protest because we carefully studied and understood that the protest is being planned by faceless people who want to use the youth as a tool to cause trouble, which may probably lead to a breach of law and order.

“The FCT natives and residents have many problems and challenges. Instead of protesting against the government, we chose to dialogue with it.
We presented various issues to the government through different forums.

“In the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), our issues were presented to the Honourable Minister of FCT through the Executive Chairman of AMAC, Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu. Part of the issues presented to the government have started getting administrative solutions.”

He added: “Creating a Mandate Secretariat for Youth Development, recently approved by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is part of the immediate solutions. We also believe that other challenges will soon be addressed, and the youth will soon smile.

“Hitherto, members of this reputable youth organisation have concluded that we will not participate in any protest because we have no reason for that. At the same time, we are calling and pleading with our dear youths out there to reverse all their plans and choose dialogue to solve most of the challenges bothering us.
