NIEEE Bolsters Collaboration With SON

Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) has taken pivotal steps to strengthen its synergy with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

This was revealed during a visit led by NIEEE president Engr. Felix Olu, and his deputy, Engr. Felix Adegboye, to the SON Laboratory Complex at Plot 8, Surulere Industrial District, Ogba, Lagos, over the weekend.

The delegation included prominent figures such as past president Engr. Emmanuel Akinwole, FNIEEE; Engr. Olalekan Olabode, FNIEEE, past chairman of the Lagos chapter; Engr. Taiwo Okharedia, FNIEEE, chairman of the Victoria Island chapter; Engr. Goodtalk Oyeinlayifa Borna, general secretary of the Epe/Ibeju-Lekki chapter; and Engr. Babatope Ajayi, deputy chairman of the Ikorodu/Egbin chapter.

During their visit, the NIEEE team toured the electrical and electronic section of the SON Laboratory Complex. Engr. Ismaila Lawal, head of the Electrical Electronics section, along with his team, guided the visitors through the facility.

Engr. Lawal expressed his gratitude for the ongoing support from NIEEE, highlighting the institute’s role in nominating personnel to SON’s Technical Committees, which has significantly contributed to the committees’ success and leadership.

Engr. Felix Olu, in his address, thanked Engr. Lawal for fostering a strong, collaborative relationship between NIEEE and SON.

He introduced the transformative CIEEEN Act, aimed at elevating professionalism and eliminating quackery in electrical and electronic engineering. A copy of the Gazette Act was presented to Engr. Lawal for further review.

The tour provided the delegation with insights into the various electrical/electronic test sections, reinforcing their commitment to advancing the field.

At the tour’s conclusion, President Olu expressed heartfelt gratitude to SON management for their remarkable efforts, particularly in the electrical sector.

The visit concluded with a meeting with the director of the laboratory, Mr. David Ikhenebome, who expressed deep appreciation for the visit and highlighted the urgent need for skilled electrical professionals to train SON employees. He hoped the visit would strengthen the bond between SON and NIEEE.

He emphasised, “There is an urgent need within SON, for skilled electrical professionals to train their employees, hoping this visit would forge a stronger bond between the two esteemed organisations, especially in the mentioned area.”

In response, President Olu affirmed NIEEE’s readiness to support SON in ensuring excellence and integrity within the field.

He reiterated NIEEE’s unwavering commitment to supporting SON in its mission to eliminate quackery from the electrical profession.

The visit was capped off with a symbolic group photograph, capturing the unity and shared purpose of both organisations.
