Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa has directed the Ministry of Infrastructure to begin the rehabilitation of the alternative road into the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

The Governor gave the directive when he paid an unscheduled visit to the university to assess some of the challenges confronting the students of the state-owned institution.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Olugbenga Ige conducted the Governor round the main gate and the alternative route into the school.

The university community has been using the alternative road leading to the second gate of the school after the main gate was shut due to incessant loss of lives to accidents along the gate.

The VC had informed Governor Ayedatiwa that past efforts to get the alternative road rehabilitated in recent years had proven abortive while the management has opened more routes for ease of commuting for staff and the students.

Following the spot assessment, Aiyedatiwa gave the order for the repair of the road, adding that his administration will come up with plans to improve the infrastructure and security of lives in and around the university.

“There have been series of accidents near the university due to the road’s topography where vehicles, particularly trucks and lorries, lose control and run into the school gate area, resulting in tragic losses of lives.

“We are now working on creating alternative routes for heavy vehicles, which will be included in our budget. Our goal is to enhance the safety and quality of life for the university community, which comprises over 20,000 students. We are committed to providing the necessary infrastructure and amenities to support them,” the governor added.
