The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) yesterday described the sudden death of Adesina Ogunlana, a past chairman of the association’s Ikeja branch, as a big shock.

Ogunlana, 60, was said to have slumped in his office on Tuesday at Fadeyi, along Ikorodu Road, Lagos. He was not publicly known to be battling any illness.

The deceased served as the NBA Chairman of the Ikeja Branch between 2016 and 2018.

He was also one of the leading lawyers representing the victims of the #EndSARS protests in Lagos in 2020.

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Akorede Lawal, the association said it received the news of the fearless, radical human rights activist “Serubawon,” who celebrated his 60th birthday with sadness ten years ago.

The bar stated that when the country’s citizens sought guidance from conscientious members of the legal profession, the passing of Adesina Ogunlana was a significant loss, as he was a true activist.

The NBA also noted that Ogunlana is known for his dedicated commitment to the rule of law, effective administration of justice, and protection of human rights. He was also actively involved in the Nationwide Hunger Protest in Lagos last week.

“Through his work as an advocate in the courtroom and as the publisher of Squib Magazine, Mr. Ogunlana, who recently celebrated his 60th birthday, left a lasting impact on the legal profession.

“The NBA and the legal community will miss Adesina Ogunlana, but more so will Nigeria.

“To his immediate family, friends, and members of the NBA Ikeja Branch, the NBA extends its deepest condolences.

“Please know that you are not alone in your grief; we share in your sorrow but find comfort in the legacy Adesina Ogunlana leaves behind. May Almighty God comfort us all,” NBA stated.
