The federal government has commenced the construction of 216 housing units of 2 and 3-bedroom flats of the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) Estate project for civil servants.

The outgoing head of the civil service of the federation (HoCSF), Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, during the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the mass housing at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), said the initiative was another milestone for the President Bola Tinubu-led government to provide housing for Nigerians.

Yemi-Esan said the initiative underscored the importance of staff welfare to improve productivity in public service.

“I am glad that we are here again today for the construction of 216 apartments for the civil servants.

“This is another great milestone for the present government. President Bola Tinubu is determined to provide housing for Nigerians and civil servants are not left behind in his initiative,” she said.

She appealed to the civil servants to make good use of the opportunity which had been created specifically for them by the federal government.

Yemi-Esan expressed optimism that the project would ease the accommodation challenges faced by the civil servants whenever the project was completed.

The administrator of PSIN, Mr Abdul-Ganiyu Obatoyinbo, said the ceremony was part of efforts to actualise pillar six of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025.

Obatoyinbo, who commended Yemi-Esan for her successful service before retirement, said the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) had benefitted tremendously from her initiatives and would remain grateful to her.

“The Institute has benefited tremendously from your intellectuality, experience, skills and industry insights.

“More specifically, PSIN would remain grateful to you in the areas of capacity upgrading, curriculum development, digitalisation agenda, agripreneurship programmes, solar-powered street lights, to mention but a few.

“We express our deepest gratitude for your tireless efforts in elevating the profile of PSIN as one of the foremost capacity-building institutions in Africa,” he said.

The HoCSF also inaugurated sports facilities comprising basketball, table tennis, handball courts and gym facilities named after her at the PSIN complex.
