President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the critical need for public servants to prioritise the nation’s progress above everything else.

Speaking during a valedictory session for the outgoing Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi Esan, at the State House in Abuja on Monday, President Tinubu used the occasion to underscore the importance of commitment and dedication in the public service.

He praised Dr. Yemi Esan’s tenure as exemplary, highlighting her unwavering loyalty and visionary leadership as benchmarks for all public officeholders.

“We must learn from her commitment to duty, loyalty, and great vision,” Tinubu stated, setting a clear expectation for current and future public servants.

He said, “Dr Folashade Yemi Esan must be thanked for her very exceptional tenure as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and we must learn from her (to show) more commitment to duty, loyalty and great vision. She served our nation exceptionally well with great vision, and with distinction, guiding the Civil Service rule with significant transformation and reforms.”

The president further extolled her dedication and transparency to the service, adding that it has enhanced professionalism and set high standards for public administration in Nigeria.

Dr. Yemi Esan, in her parting remarks, echoed the President’s sentiments.

She advised government workers to “always put the progress of the nation first before any other thing,” reinforcing the message that public service should be driven by national interest rather than personal gain.

Walson-Jack Sworn in as Head of Service

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has sworn in Didi Esther Walson-Jack as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

The brief ceremony took place at the Council Chambers of the State House before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting.

The new HoS’ appointment was approved by President Tinubu last month following the expected retirement of Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan from the position on August 13, 2024.

Mrs. Walson-Jack was appointed as federal permanent secretary in 2017 and has served in several ministries.

After the oath of office ceremony, the cabinet meeting, which was cancelled last week, commenced.
