A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Party (APC) in Edo State, Dr. Tony Obahieme, has strongly condemned what he called ‘media attacks’ on the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming governorship election in the state, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Reacting to a tweet by AriseNews Channel host, Rufai Oseni, about Okpebholo, Obahieme described claims by the journalist as “misleading and manipulative.”

Dr. Obahieme accused Oseni of abandoning journalistic integrity, claiming that his actions amounted to “narrative manipulation and character assassination.”

He expressed disappointment, stating, “I don’t expect this kind of false and public manipulation from someone we all respect.”

Defending Senator Okpebholo, Dr. Obahieme emphasised that the APC governorship candidate and Edo South Senator has always been accessible and prefer direct communication with the people of Edo State.

“He is a full-breed grassroots politician who has earned the love and trust of the real Edo people,” Obahieme stated, adding that Okpebholo was poised to become the next governor of the state.

He further criticised those he said have “failed Edolites,” accusing them of corruption and contributing to Edo State’s debt profile.

Dr. Obahieme concluded by advising Oseni to retract his statement and avoid being used by political opponents to mislead the public.
Obahieme’s comments have sparked further debate on the role of the media in politics.
