The commissioner for health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, made this known during an inspection tour of three health facilities (Bamali Nuhu Maternity hospital, Asiya Bayero pediatric hospital and the emergency unit of the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital) renovated by Governor Abba Yusuf.

According to the commissioner, the delivery packs contain sanitary pads, surgical gloves and disinfectants, among others, to take care of pregnant women before and after delivery.

“Every month we will get as many as 6,000 delivery and 500 caesarian section packs because that is the number of expected deliveries in our hospitals in a month. Tomorrow we shall commence the distribution for onward delivery for free across the public hospitals.

“We are equally giving free drugs to pregnant women from three months and have increased the number of primary health care centres from 52 to over 150 PHCs where such services can be access for free. Our intention is to reach all PHCs in the wards in the state,” he said.
