The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab said operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps have arrested fourteen miscreants in the Oshodi area of the state for harassing passengers and that they will be prosecuted.
Wahab who made the disclosure on Thursday on his verified X handle (formerly Twitter), vowed that the arrested persons will be prosecuted in accordance with the Lagos State environmental law.
“Fourteen miscreants who are harassing passersby and passengers at Terminal 3 in Oshodi were earlier today apprehended.
“They have been profiled and would be prosecuted in accordance with the Lagos State environmental law,” he said.
The arrests are in accordance with maintaining law and order with the environmental policy for a cleaner and saner Lagos.
In a related development, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) have launched a joint media campaign to ban open defecation along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, particularly targeting the median from OPIC Plaza to Otedola Bridge.
Just as the initiative aims to enhance public health and environmental sustainability by preventing the spread of cholera and other communicable diseases, the campaign also targets restoration of the aesthetic appeal of the vital corridor, known as a gateway to Lagos, often referred to as the nation’s Centre of Excellence and Africa’s fourth-largest economy.
