St Gregory’s College Old Boys Association (SGCOBA) has made an appeal to the federal government to tackle the problem of unemployment headlong, saying its high rate t is responsible for most of the challenges facing the country.

This appeal was made by Justice Adeniyi Ademola (rtd), president of SGCOBA during a press briefing announcing the re-union of students of the school, which starts on August 24, 2024 and ends in December, 2024.

Justice Ademola, who briefed the press in company of the first vice president of SGCOBA, Mr Tony Epelle and members of the SGCOBA media team, Prince Christopher Odianarewo and Hon Saheed Okeneye, noted that unemployment can be best tackled if Nigeria shifts to vocational training because most labour markets require services of those with vocational training.

Speaking in the same vein, Mr Epelle said the association will be launching a portal to help people get employed and also create job opportunities for SGCOBA members.

“We are going to launch an alumni job portal; an alumni job website so that we can get our people to be a bit more employed and get those who are also employers to come around to see what we are doing and also help as many Gregorians as possible,” he said.

He maintained that part of the programme for the re-union is to hold entrepreneurship and business management seminars for SGCOBA members to teach them how to set up businesses and be self-reliant instead of seeking employment opportunities which are scarce.

Justice Ademola who said he shall be completing his six-year term in office in December, appealed to the executive that will succeed him to work on old students to be more committed to funding the association and its activities.

He admitted that the old students did much for the school, their alma mater, but the association also should not be neglected.
