Farmers across the 17 local government areas of Yobe State have described the agricultural support given to them by the administration of governor Mai Mala Buni as not only unprecedented but a measure that rekindled their hope towards a bumper harvest this year.

President Tinubu, represented by the Vice President Kashim Shettima, had in July 2024, launched a multi-billion agricultural empowerment tools including 100 tractors, goats for women and widows among other implements meant for distribution to farmers across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Most farmers who benefited from the support, especially fertilizer, said the products which already applied on farms have transformed their vegetation indicating a possible high yield at the end of the cropping season.

Mallam Babagana Abubakar of Geidam in Geidam local government area who benefitted from NPK fertiliser, herbicides among other inputs said the products have after applying made the farm more admirable and hopeful.

“This is the first time in the history of Yobe State that such mega agricultural support touches the right and genuine farmers at the grassroots.

“The distribution of the inputs came at the right time because this year the volume and level of the rainfall is quite appreciable and the products were given to us at the time our crops are direly in need of it.

“When I applied the NPK fertiliser given to me by the government, everything changed within a few days and luckily I have the herbicide already attached with the support. As I am talking to you, the major thing that awaits in my farm is the time for harvest because for the first time we were supported with the right product at the right time.”

Also at Gulani, many farmers from different wards of the area such as Ruhu, Dokshi, Njibulwa, Bularafa, Tetteba and Garin Tuwo among others said “What Governor Mai Mala Buni did to us has clearly shown that we have a governor who believe in transforming the agricultural sector for food security.

“Our local government stakeholders composed of Alhaji Aji Yerima Bularafa, Mohammed Mohammed Bara and the local government chairman, Alhaji Dayyabu Ilu have as directed by His Excellency distributed the agricultural empowerment support to us and we are seeing its impacts right away.

“With the exception of some ploughs which for us will only work in the dry farming or next cropping season, we have used all the inputs given to us and the anticipation of high yield is the hope of everyone of us here.”

Several farmers from Damaturu, Gujba, Yunusari, Bursari, Machina, Bade, Jakusko among many other benefiting LGAs commended the governor for the initiative appealing for continuation and emulation by every government especially those from the north eastern part of the country.
