In collaboration with ActionAid, a non-governmental organisation, YouthhubAfrica has taken a significant step forward in fostering youth development by tailoring policies specifically designed to empower young people within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This policy, designed to address pressing challenges faced by young people in the territory, focuses on critical areas such as education, employment, health, and social inclusion.

Speaking earlier, the programme manager of YouthHubAfrica, Mr Olusegun Medupin, said that by aligning the policy with the needs of the youth, the initiative aims to create a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future for young people across the FCT.

Medupin noted that adopting this policy is a testament to the collective commitment to building a brighter future for the young people of the FCT.

He reiterated that the FCT Youth Development Policy has been meticulously developed through consultations, discussions, and validation meetings involving key stakeholders, including representatives from youth organisations, civil society, government agencies, and local communities.

“This policy is not just a document; it represents our shared vision for a society where youth can thrive, contribute meaningfully, and be the driving force behind sustainable development.

‘’As we move towards adoption, we are more than ready to translate this vision into actionable programs that will make a tangible difference in the lives of our youth. The adoption of this policy marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to build a brighter future for the youth in the FCT,” he said.

According to him, YouthHubAfrica remains committed to working closely with all stakeholders and, most importantly, providing the necessary technical support to the FCT government to ensure the successful implementation of the policy and to create an enabling environment where young people can thrive.

On his part, the deputy director of the FCT Youth Secretariat, Mr Tam Dokubo, said that some of the focus areas include education, investment, agriculture, job creation, ICT, science and technology, and innovation, among others, for the FCT people in general.

“We can harness the synergy, creativity, and potential of our fellow youths in the FCT region, enabling them to become active contributors to the nation’s development. It is a disturbing issue among the youth, and we believe that only when people are of sound mind can they be productive.

“We don’t want to be judgmental. We understand that times are hard and people are going through a lot. We are here to provide this document to achieve development with the young people in the FCT,” he added.
