The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MHUD) has been commended for its effort in making shelter available and affordable to Nigerians.

The commendation was made by Arewa Initiative for Sustainable Development & Humanitarian during its quarterly stakeholders engagement in Kano, yesterday.

Speaking to newsmen at the event, Auwal Shuaibu, the group’s secretary, described shelter as a necessity in life.

“If you take into account that, house or shelter is a crucial aspect of human existence, especially in Nigeria, you will appreciate the efforts of this administration, through the resilience of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

“The massive housing scheme, known as Renewed Hope City and Estate Scheme, where thousands of cities would be built across the country, is here to stay, especially coming at a time where livelihood is challenging” he stated.

“It is no surprise the ministry is trailblazing. Because, it is the one ministry, where both ministers are technocrats and professionals in both housing, infrastructural, human and urban development.

“Arch Dangiwa being a high-flying architect, and HE Engr Abdullahi Muhammad T Gwarzo, an experienced engineer with decades of experience, are proven assets president Bola Ahmed Tinubu has in his cabinet, hence the achievement coming just a year into their appointment,” he said.

Speaking earlier at the event, the chairman of the group, Abdullahi Muhammad said, “It is evident, we do not need to be petty and partisan. When it comes to mass housing scheme, anywhere in the world, the Renewed Hope City and Estate Scheme, is one that can compete favourably in any global mass schemes.

“With a presidential mandate of delivering 100,000 units of housing to, especially middle and low income earners, it signifies an ambitious plan to bring succour to those that actually needed them.

“What makes this social mass housing scheme unique is the transparent manner it is being handled, and the nonpartisan nature of acquisition and the geographical spread, regardless of political leanings.”
