The Ministry of Police Affairs, in conjunction with the Police Officers Wives Associatio (POWA), has organised training in craftsmanship for about 1,500 students in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to keep them busy during this holiday period.

The programme, which trains the trainers, aims to engage students across the country with the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) initiative.

The programme is in partnership with Prof Hauwa Ibrahim, a visiting lecturer from Harvard University, to encourage and promote children’s seriousness about school or education in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the event on Wednesday, the minister of state for Police Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said, “The future of learning revolves around STEAM, and adding art to it will help to carry along all the children who are not science inclined. Art is essential and enhances the creativity required for learning in children.

The minister, a lecturer in some universities in Rome and the United States, further said that learning in police schools will also be considered in the ongoing police reforms. We are striving for excellence in all aspects, and in the next few years, police schools will be among the best and choicest schools to attain.

Also speaking at the event, the Mandate Secretary, Dayo Benjamin, said this programme is a welcome development in the FCT as it will better equip the students to face the world.

Also, Prof Ibrahim, one of the lecturers who handled the students at the programme, appreciated the initiative, noting that with the minister’s support, the programme would be extended to other schools.
